August 31, 2015 - September 3, 2015 Contract for The Mask of the Red Death

CONTRACT

for
THE MASQUE
of the
RED DEATH

For the first time in its history, Hollywood High School Performing Arts Magnet will present a Halloween play production. The inaugural play for this new annual production will be an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s short story masterpiece, The Masque of the Red Death.  The production will be performed Wednesday, October 28th at 7 p.m. and Thursday, October 29th at 7 p.m.  The Thespian’s annual Haunted House will be held immediately following the play.  This production will be unique in another way in that each scene of The Masque of the Red Death will take place at different locations on campus. The actors and the audience will move from one scene location to the next.

The auditions for The Masque of the Red Death will be held during 5th and 6th period and after school from 3:15 to 5:00 on Wednesday, September 2nd, and Thursday, September 3rd in 503. Scripts may be picked up in 503.  You can read the short story on line or watch scenes from The Masque of the Red Death on Youtube.

The rehearsals for The Masque of the Red Death will be after school from 3:15 to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 10th, 17th and 24th. You must be courteous and professional at all times. This means that you must be punctual to every rehearsal,  that you must stay until you are dismissed, and at the beginning of each rehearsal you must participate in the theatre exercises and the warm-ups for they are integral to the actor’s craft and in the development of this production. It also means that you arrive at rehearsal ready to work with your script and a pencil, with your lines and blocking memorized. Cell phones and ipods are strictly prohibited on stage! And at all times it is understood that you must behave in a mature, courteous manner to everyone; when the director and actors are working, the other actors are to be quiet, on task, focused and positive.  No loud talking, no off-topic conversations, and no loud, boisterous playing around when the director is not working with you.   Keep outside baggage outside - there is no space in theatre for personal drama.  The director retains the right to use his/her professional discretion in casting and recasting if necessary, based on the needs of the production.

Finally, it is imperative that you keep at least a 2.0 average in your classes. Failure to do so may result in your immediate dismissal from the show. Now, let’s get to work, have fun and create some magic!

I have read the requirements that are needed to participate in this production and agree to comply with the conditions for working on the show.

August 31, 2015 - September 3, 2015 Contract for ARGONAUTIKA

Contract for ARGONAUTIKA

Opens: Thursday, December 3rd @ 7 p.m., runs Friday, December 4th @ 7 p.m., Saturday, December 5 @ 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 6th @ 2 p.m.

ARGONAUIKA by Mary Zimmerman is a retelling of the myth of Jason, the argonauts, the golden fleece, and Medea.  The play is an ensemble piece in which every actor will play multiple parts - including ships, animals, and any other inanimate object as needed, etc. -  they will play musical instruments,  dance, and create sound effects and special effects. We are not looking for trained dancers or singers but rather people who can dance and sing to the drumming of life. We need people who are filled with the joy and exuberance of life and love, and can focus that positive (and disciplined) energy on stage.  You will be an integral part of the staging process, and will help create the characters and the stage movements through improvisation.  Courage, creativity and imagination are traits that will be in high demand during the rehearsal/creative process of ARGONAUTIKA.

Auditions will be held during sixth period and after school on Wednesday, September 9th, Thursday, September 10th,  Friday, September 11th,  and final call backs on Monday, September 14th.  The cast list will be posted on Tuesday, September 15th, and rehearsals will start on Monday, September 21st, and run from 6th period through 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for shortened Tuesdays. You do not have to be in 6th period to be in the show, but we would prefer that you are.

Starting around the beginning of November, selected actors will stay until 6 p.m. As we get closer to opening, which is December 3rd,  everyone will begin staying late - to 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. and finally, the last week before we open, we will stay until 9:00 p.m. There will be Saturday rehearsals starting in November, and two or three days of rehearsal during the Thanksgiving break.

The fall play has a show at seven p.m. on Thursday, December 3rd, seven p.m. on Friday, December 4th, seven p.m. on Saturday, December 5th,  and a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 6th.   The play will run approximately one and a half hours, and will end between 8:30 and 9:00. However, before you may leave, you will be expected to hang up your costumes, put your props away, and help clean up the costume room before leaving after each performance.
