We need props for BLACK ORPHEUS - recently rechristened ORPHEUS and EURYDICE:

The setting is timeless but we don’t want anything too new or too modern:

a victrola

Other items people would pawn:

cameras

radios

lamps

old watches,

costume jewelry in jewelry boxes

musical instruments

old fashioned typewriter

brush

hand mirror

a scarf with astrological signs on it

two glasses

a wine bottle - sans wine

a beer bottle - sans beer

bolts of cloth

an old fashioned peddle sewing machine

a barrel

odds and ends that one might find in an old fashioned 5 & Dime:

sewing utensils:

bolts of cloth

packets of yarns

small decorative boxes

small boxes of food

clipboard

pencils

manila folders

3 stethoscopes

Costumes:

Old cast off clothes:

The characters are all impoverished and the street clothes they wear should reflect that.

If you have clothes you’ve been meaning to donate to Goodwill, let us use them first ;-)

If you have old clothes your children have outgrown please feel free to donate to us.

The Mardi Gras scenes are colorful and the characters are in costume. The actors will be given material to help construct their costumes, but if you have old costumes PLEASE let us have them. Or if you have bolts of fabric or other types of material - ribbons, feathers, etc. please feel free to bring them in. Also, if you have expertise in sewing or building costumes, please feel free to come down and help. We have a wonderful costumer - a former student, Julius Bronola - but there are a lot of actors and we could use some help in building, and guiding the students in making their own costumes.

We are looking for clothes that are colorful and not too specific to a particular time period:

white shirts

white blouses

white skirts/dresses

white pants

colorful shirts and blouses

bright colorful skirts and dresses

sandals

white slip-on Ked tennis shoes

Please: no jeans or anything that is too modern

Also, the costumes should be generic: pirates, soldiers, princesses - but nothing that is easily categorized as “Disney”. We do not want to jar the audience out of the sense that this is a timeless place far removed from the modern world of corporate products.

Masks:

I bought material for the actors to make their own masks. If you would like to add some interesting material to the inventory please do so - it would be greatly appreciated. And if you have some expertise in masking-making, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Starting after Thanksgiving week we will be staying late and food would be nice.

We also really need ad sales. So far we only have one sale and that was from Jordan Mantor’s mother who graciously bought an ad for our program Thank you so much, Mrs. Mantor! We really appreciate your generosity!

Thank you all for your help!

Kate Bridges
