PLAY PRODUCTION
FOR
THE SUGAR BEAN SISTERS

This semester we are doing a play by Nathan Sanders entitled THE SUGAR BEAN SISTERS. The running dates are going to be December 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th, Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. The rehearsals will be Monday through Friday during 6th and 7th period (2 pm - 5 pm). As we get closer to the opening (around the middle of November) we may - depending upon the need - stay until six or seven o’clock at night; however, if we work hard every day and are prompt the late rehearsals can be avoided. There will probably be at least two Saturday rehearsals in November for tech.

In order to be eligible to be in the show, each actor must maintain a 2.0 average on her/his last mid-term or final report card. Since our show goes up after the mid-term, your mid-term report card will be considered to determine your eligibility.

So that our working together is fun, relatively stress-free and productive, the following code of behavior should be followed:

Be prompt! Arrive on time with your script, pencils, props and costumes ready to go. If rehearsal time is called for 2:00 be ready to go at 2:00. Take care of personal necessities (phone calls, bathroom, etc.) before the rehearsal. The less time we waste, the less time we will have to stay late.

Come to rehearsals! Please try to schedule appointments, meetings, etc. outside of rehearsal time. If an appointment must be scheduled during rehearsal time, please give the director twenty-four hours notice if possible, with a note (and a parent’s phone number). I know that emergencies do occur and cannot always be avoided, but again, the more rehearsal time is wasted, the more late night rehearsals must be scheduled.

Be focused on the play. If you are having a personal problem, don’t bring it into the show - leave it at the back door. If it is overwhelming, please come in private to me or to Ms. Payne so that it can be discussed and resolved.

If you are having issues with another cast member, please come to the director (that would be me) and discuss it.

Please respect your director, your fellow actors and the words of the playwright. Remember the Golden Rule - treat others as you would have others treat you? It’s a good rule. Before you say that oh so funny but snarky comment about another, think for a second and consider if you would think it so funny if it were said about you.

No side talking, text messaging (horrors!) or just general fooling around while we are rehearsing. Remember: the time we waste during rehearsal will have to be made up during Saturday rehearsals and/or many late night rehearsals.

Time management. When you are not being used during rehearsal, use the available time for: learning your lines, organizing your props, assembling your costumes or (horrors!) doing your homework!!!!! Doing your homework will help you keep your grades up so that you will be eligible to do the show.

No drugs or alcohol either on campus, during rehearsals or off. Drugs profoundly change people’s personalities - always for the worse - and it lowers the energy and general atmosphere of the project, making what could have been a joyous, fun and creative enterprise into a negative, frustrating and prosaic trial.

Continued infractions of the above requests will result in removal from the play and a serious reduction in the final grade for play production.

I am sure there are plenty of other things I am forgetting, but this will be enough for the moment. I hope that this will be a fun and fulfilling experience for us all.

Sincerely,

Kate Bridges

I have read the above and agree to abide by the requests:
